Why we’re doing this
Refinery Fitness has always been about more than workouts — it's about the people in this town getting stronger together. So this fall we're launching a monthly community event series: free gatherings that rotate between workouts, talks, wellness evenings, and causes worth showing up for.
Our first event is 12 Days of Fitness, a partner-friendly circuit built on the Twelve Days of Christmas. Lords a-leaping? Box jumps. Maids a-milking? Somebody has to carry those pails — farmer's carries. Drummers drumming? Med-ball slams, obviously.
It's also the Sunday before Thanksgiving — consider it your pre-game. Train hard, hang out after, and head into the holiday week already ahead. (One more thing: we've got a charitable twist in the works for this event. Watch this space.)
The workout
Twelve stations, short work intervals, plenty of rest built in — and a coach demonstrating an easier version of every movement before we start. Work with a partner or fly solo; we'll match you up when you arrive.
Day 1 — A partridge in a pear tree — barbell RDL, one per side (scaled: dumbbell or bodyweight)
Day 2 — Two turtle doves — chest flies (they fly far distances)
Day 3 — Three French hens — dumbbell French press (scaled: tricep pulldown)
Day 4 — Four calling birds — bird dogs, banded (scaled: bodyweight)
Day 5 — Five gold rings — gymnastics ring rows
Day 6 — Six geese a-laying — glute bridges
Day 7 — Seven swans a-swimming — SkiErg
Day 8 — Eight maids a-milking — farmer’s carry
Day 9 — Nine ladies dancing — speed skaters
Day 10 — Ten lords a-leaping — box jumps (or step-ups)
Day 11 — Eleven pipers piping — overhead press
Day 12 — Twelve drummers drumming — med-ball slams
What to bring
Yourself, workout clothes, and a water bottle. Bringing a guest? They're welcome — guests just sign a quick waiver at the door.
After the workout: coffee, cider, treats, and first word on a little holiday something extra we're working on — more on that as the day gets closer.
Space is capped at 12 pairs so everyone gets coaching attention. When it’s full, it’s full.
Questions
Q: I'm not a member. Can I come? A: Absolutely — that's the point. This is a community event, not a member perk.
Q: I'm new to exercise / coming back from a layoff. Will I survive? A: Yes. Every station has a scaled version, partners share the work, and our coaches float the floor. It's not a competition; it's a party with squats.
Q: Can I bring my kids to watch? A: Spectators are welcome. The workout itself is for adults and teens 14+.
Q: Can I bring a friend who's never really worked out? A: Please do — that's half the fun. Every station scales, partners share the work, and nobody's keeping score.
See you on the 22nd,
